Victorianbourg Wine Estate
Nestled on the gentle slopes along the south shore of Lake Ontario, Victorianbourg Wine Estate labors to create world class wines from the classic European wine grapes. The unique influence of the lake, called an “inland sea” by the early French explorers, creates a maritime climate 500 miles from the nearest ocean. The combination of the lake, and the unique air flows generated by the Niagara Escarpment, bestow here one of the best climates in the world to create fine wines.
Our vineyard cultivation practices are based on the Burgundian model: high density of plantings to limit the yield from any one vine to concentrate the flavors, low training of the grapes to absorb stored heat from the soil, hand picking to avoid damage to the grapes. The majority of our wines are designed to complement food, relatively dry, with only minimal oak and then only when the effect is to add complexity to the wine, never to overpower the taste of the fruit. But we recognize that not all tastes are the same, so we also offer a line of classic sweeter wines, crafted with the same care in both the vineyard and the winery as our signature dry wines. And filling out our range of offerings is a line of sparkling wines, from dry to sweet, to complement every taste and to make any occasion special.
